National Library and Information Week 2026

The National Association of Libraries and Information Professionals Saint Lucia celebrates National Library and Information Week (April 19th – 25th, 2026). It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and information centres and library and information workers and to promote library and information centre use and support. From free access to books and online resources for families to library business centers that help support entrepreneurship and retraining, libraries offer opportunity to all.

The theme for 2026 National Library and Information Week is " For a Richer Fuller Life Read: konpwann, étidyé, apwann/ understand, study and learn”. This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of reading and being always curious to understand, study and apply what was learnt, at all ages for continuous development.

Since November 2014 when NALIP Saint Lucia was formed, Libraries and Information Week has been an integral part of our Annual Activities and 11 years later, in 2026, it is no different. Over the years, all types of libraries and information centres- school, public, academic and special - have banded together to promote the library and information worker profession. We have grown, been challenged and endured loss along the way but we are proud to say that we have made it and continue to forge ahead.

National Library and Information Week events

• Sunday, April 19th: Launch of Library and Information Week with a church service at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Castries, 8:30 A.M.
• Monday, April 20th: Virtual Launch, 10:00 A.M.
• Tuesday, April 21st: Libraries Outreach Day. Various activities at Libraries and Information Centers around Saint Lucia
• Wednesday, April 22nd: National Library and Information Workers Day (NLIWD). Libraries and their respective organisations are asked to celebrate their workers contributions. Venue: Mount Kailash Rejuvenation Centre, Bexon. Feature Speaker- Mrs. Betty Combie.
• Thursday, April 23rd: NALIP Annual Symposium at the UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia, 9:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

This year, the association spotlights the contributions of five (5) deceased individuals whose work left a lasting impact on library services in Saint Lucia. Among them:

Mrs. Mary Prescod who stands out for her dedication to building a first-class West Indian collection and reestablishing the library after the 1948 fire.

Ms. Frances Niles, celebrated for her decades of service, precision, kindness, and devotion to librarianship and family.

Mrs. Hetty Felicite Lucien, Gros Islet's pioneering first librarian, MBE recipient and beloved educator, who dedicated her life’s work to nurturing a love of reading and learning in her community.

Ms. Claudette Valentine, honored for her professionalism, faith, and leadership in library and information services.

Ms. Rosamund Stanislas, remembered for over 30 years of dedicated service, humility, and commitment to literacy and community.

NALIP (Saint Lucia) encourages active participation from all Libraries and Information Centres island-wide and the wider community in the observance of NLIW.
