How to Play Battleship Kwéyòl: a Saint Lucian Kwéyòl Game Named After Our Districts
Goal
Sink the 5 enemy warships before they sink yours, calling every shot in Saint Lucian Kwéyòl.
How to play
- Name your 5 ships after Saint Lucia's districts and pick their boats. The French or British navy attacks.
- Tap a ship, then a square to place it. ⟲ turns it and 🎲 places them all.
- Fire at the computer's grid. Shots are called with a letter and a Kwéyòl number, like B sèt for column B, row 7.
- A hit earns another shot. A miss passes the turn.
- Sink all 5 ships to win.
Scoring
A perfect 17 shot win scores 1,500, minus 12 for each extra shot, never under 300. Lose, and each hit earns 20. Higher levels multiply your points.

Levels
Beginner
Rows show the number and the Kwéyòl word, like 7 sèt. The computer fires at random. Points × 1.
Intermediate
Rows show only the Kwéyòl word. The computer hunts down ships once it hits one. Points × 1.3.
Advanced
Rows have no labels. Tap a square, then pick the Kwéyòl number for its row. Pick the wrong number and your shot lands on that row instead. The computer plays its best. Points × 1.6.
Tips
- Every enemy ship is real: each fought in the Battle of St Lucia on 15 December 1778, when the French attacked the British fleet anchored at Grand Cul de Sac.
- Rows count down from the top: an is 1 and dis is 10.
- After a hit, try the squares next to it to find which way the ship runs.
- Ships can touch, so a sunk ship may have a neighbour right beside it.
